  1.                        The Plum-Hall Benchmarks

  3. This is a simple set of benchmarks intended to give programmers timing
  4. information about common C operations. See the Makefile for instructions;
  5. basically, all you have to do is type `make', wait, and look at bench.out.
  6.  
  7. A table of results for some popular machines is included in bench.tbl.
  8. For more information on the benchmark techniques and the philosophy
  9. behind them, browse the file ARTICLE.
